Malcolm was. You know he didn’t mess around with spices and whatnot. He stayed away from the “swine” as a good muslim brother. I bet he turned out a damned good bean pie. Our southern brother MLK was all up into fatback, chitlins, smothered porkchops and cracklin. I know he was peaceful but went home and put his foot into some heart attack food.
Who would you rather have as your boss at a McDonalds: George W or John Kerry?
George Bush. When I actually did have a job at McDonalds when I was 16, the way I quit was very liberating. I scared the shit out of Rita, the evil ass manager, by standing up to her incessant bullying and screaming in her face while I was on the cash register, I went to the bin and threw burgers down on the floor, took off my uniform shirt and threw it in the trash while customers looked on in horror. I would love to have done that to Bush.
What sex would you like to be reincarnated as?
All of it.
You are discussing the music of Prince with Buddha, Jesus and Mohamed. Which of them turns out to be the biggest Prince fan and why?
I think budda would be the biggest fan. Prince is all about peace, love, and great sex.
Why are you an actor/musician?
I am an artist that loves storytelling. I am an actor because somehow that is what my path has led me to.
You wake up severely hungover in las vegas hotel room with no memory of the previous night to find yourself clutching a whip and situated in bed between a snoring clarence thomas (wearing nothing but a white leather mini skirt and fishnets) and condoleeza rice in a catwoman suit. What are the first words out of your mouth?
I’m gonna kill Stew for ordering those Patron shots.
You are running for president in 2008. What is your campaign slogan?
Time to bring Sexy Black. Vote Domingo in 2008.
What, if anything, do you have in common with Youth?
Not a damn thing. Just kidding. I think that I have also been an alter-negro. I grew up wanting to be myself and not being defined by the walls that society builds upon itself.
If you could feel in everyday life the way you do when you're acting/making music would you still act/make music? And why?
I would. That would be so magnificent. I strive to make the rest of my life like art. Precious, beautiful, passionate, all giving, spontaneous and deeply spiritual.
La Liz was fond of having her favorite chili sent from a Beverly Hills restaurant to wherever she happened to be working in the world. If you had it like that, (and who says you don't?) what transnational or transcontinental craving would you have satisfied during PS's run?
I would have Foie Grois that it is prepared at Sole La Luna in Sonoma County, roasted Chicken and Caesar Salad from Zuni Café in San Francisco, beautiful French pastries from this little shop in Collieure, France that I swear was made with crack, a nice bottle of Veuve Cliquot Grand Dam and some sweet Kumamoto Oysters.
What did you like most about being in Berkeley?
I like the energy of people in Berkeley. Very politically aware, generous, and a little funky crazy.
It is the future and the borough of Queens has been given over exclusively to women. Men, while not allowed to live or work there, are allowed 24 hour visitor passports as well as weekend passes - but at a very high cost. To the women: do you think you'd wanna live there? To the men: how often do you think you'd visit?
0 times. Are you nuts. Those women will eventually all be on the same cycle!!! Drama!
While browsing thru the Schomburg library you happen upon an undiscovered letter in which Frederick Douglas outs himself as a huge leather queen. According to the letter, he and Honest Abe spent a memorable weekend once in a cozy log cabin. Do you go public with this finding?
I sure would. Showing that our talented 10th was indeed TALENTED!!!!
Why is it when you ask artists what they would do if they couldn't do art they usually say "teach"?
I think artist love to share which is I hope the main purpose of their work. To share life! And I love to share what I know and in turn teaching is learning. Artists spend so much time researching, exploring techniques, trial and error. You must pass on knowledge to inspire those that will come after you.
Which character in Passing Strange would you like to sit next to on a long plane ride? Which would you not like to sit next to? And why.
I would love to sit next to Heidi. Because she is quiet and I like my sleep in First Class. Mr. Franklin would talk too damn much for me. Smoking weed in the bathrooms and trying to hook up with the flight attendants. He would wear me out. And he is closeted too!!! Ooooh I don’t have time for him. Singing Maria Callas and getting all up in everyones’ business.
